Check for interest first, briefly

They ask you questions back rather than only answering.
They continue conversations you did not restart.
They stay past the point where they could reasonably leave.
If none of that is happening, a warm ask is still fine — just expect a no and make it painless.

One activity, one day, one clear exit. Piling up qualifiers reads as anxiety and puts the burden of managing your feelings onto them.
